چکیده

we report the first demonstration of a long-distance ultra stable frequency dissemination in the microwave range. A 9.15 GHz signal is transferred through a 86-km urban optical link with a fractional frequency instability of 1.3×10 at 1 s integration time and below 10 at one day. The optical link phase noise compensation is performed with a round-trip method. To achieve such a result we implement light polarisation scrambling and dispersion compensation. This link outperforms all the previous radiofrequency links and compares well with recently demonstrated full optical links. corresponding author Giorgio Santarelli, email : [email protected] PACS : 42.62.Eh, 06.30.Ft, 42.81.Uv ha l-0 04 31 70 9, v er si on 1 12 N ov 2 00 9

Precise and Continuous Time and Frequency Synchronisation at the 5×10-19 Accuracy Level

The synchronisation of time and frequency between remote locations is crucial for many important applications. Conventional time and frequency dissemination often makes use of satellite links. Recently, the communication fibre network has become an attractive option for long-distance time and frequency dissemination. Here, we demonstrate accurate frequency transfer and time synchronisation via ...

Stable radio-frequency transfer over optical fiber by phase-conjugate frequency mixing.

We demonstrate long-distance (≥100-km) synchronization of the phase of a radio-frequency reference over an optical-fiber network without needing to actively stabilize the optical path length. Frequency mixing is used to achieve passive phase-conjugate cancellation of fiber-length fluctuations, ensuring that the phase difference between the reference and synchronized oscillators is independent o...

Sub-femtosecond optical timing distribution for next-generation light sources

Precise timing distribution is critical for realizing a new regime of light control in next-generation X-ray free-electron lasers. These facilities aim to generate sub-femtosecond (fs) X-ray pulses with unprecedented brightness to realize the long-standing scientific dream to capture chemical and physical reactions with atomic-level spatiotemporal resolution. To achieve this, a high-precision t...

Delivery of High-Stability Optical and Microwave Frequency Standards over an Optical Fiber Network

Optical and radio frequency standards located in JILA and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) laboratories have been connected through a 3.45-km optical fiber link. An optical frequency standard based on an iodine-stabilized Nd:YAG laser at 1064 nm (with an instability of ;4 3 10214 at 1 s) has been transferred from JILA to NIST and simultaneously measured in both laboratories...

Cascaded multiplexed optical link on a telecommunication network for frequency dissemination.

We demonstrate a cascaded optical link for ultrastable frequency dissemination comprised of two compensated links of 150 km and a repeater station. Each link includes 114 km of Internet fiber simultaneously carrying data traffic through a dense wavelength division multiplexing technology, and passes through two routing centers of the telecommunication network. The optical reference signal is in...
